Acne Studios New Store Opening, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur - Pictures courtesy of Acne Studios |
A first store in a new country is usually treated as a blank slate. Acne Studios treated its Kuala Lumpur debut as the opposite, a chance to prove its design language travels intact, dropping the same pink granite, the same sculptural furniture, the same material tension into Southeast Asia that defines its stores everywhere else.

That consistency is the more interesting story than the opening itself. Halleroed, the Swedish architecture studio behind the space, has worked with creative director Jonny Johansson across the brand's stores for years, and the Kuala Lumpur build leans on the exact same design vocabulary: pink granite cladding the facade, floor, and pillars, softened by Max Lamb's undulating seating, sharpened again by Benoit Lalloz's geometric stainless steel lighting strewn across the ceiling. None of these are new collaborators brought in for a single market.
