La Double J's 'Size Matters' Turns Everyday Homewares Into Surrealist Art

La Double J distorted reality for Milan Design Week, turning its Via Sant’Andrea flagship into a "metaphysical sanctuary." The activation, titled "Size Matters," centred on a series of iconic, oversized homeware sculptures inspired by the dreamlike proportions of René Magritte’s surrealist works. Hand-crafted by Viareggio carnival master Luca Bertozzi, these extra-large pieces challenged our perception of the domestic, scaling familiar objects from Mini to Maxi to elevate the everyday into the divine.

The immersion began at the street level with high-concept windows developed in collaboration with eclectic artist Max Siedentopf. These displays served as a portal into the brand’s surrealist world, blending Made in Italy craftsmanship with a playful exploration of scale. Inside, the store functioned as a vibrant ecosystem of colour and sacred geometry, providing the perfect backdrop for the debut of the Al Fresco outdoor collection.

To complete the experience, visitors were invited to take a piece of the magic home with whimsical keepsakes, including a mini-magazine and custom pins inspired by the Mini/Maxi concept. It was a high-vibration celebration of design that proved beauty was found at every scale, transforming a simple retail visit into a soul-soothing, spirit-elevating ritual.

What a creative approach to transforming everyday homewares into artistic statement pieces! The bold designs and surrealist inspiration make the collection truly stand out. Creative branding items like lapel pins can also capture this same artistic spirit, allowing people to carry unique designs beyond the home.

How original and imaginative is the way homeware has been designed! The use of oversize makes it more artistic and grabs immediate attention. Inclusion of cartoon characters animation in visual marketing strategies would be an added bonus to the range of designs.
